Dear SAR REALTOR®and Affiliate Members,
No one has ever become poor by giving,” is a quote by Anne Frank that often comes to mind when I think about all of our amazing volunteers who give their time and resources to better our profession and to better our greater Sacramento community.
I think many of our members are already aware that we fundraise for various community causes and nonprofits. About a decade ago, SAR formed a Charitable Foundation to better organize our community fundraising. And did you know that the Sacramento Business Journal ranked SAR #7 for philanthropic giving in 2020 among all organizations in greater Sacramento? Our current foundation Chair is Leon Williams, the Vice Chair is Victoria Millan, and our board members are Nancy Arndorfer, Secretary Karen Berkovitz, Treasurer, Preston Collier, Rosanna Garcia, Dennis Johnson, Mershad Khazari, Patti Mathews, Jennifer Vicari-Cox, Ann Vuletch Cynthia Woods. They all help make SAR shine in the community.
A few weeks ago I was working shoulder to shoulder with a couple dozen SAR members packing oranges that would go into food boxes at the Sacramento Food Bank. I wondered how many of our members were aware of the numerous hours our volunteers spend helping out in the community? Between bell-ringing for the Salvation Army, building or renovating homes with organizations like Habitat for Humanity or Rebuilding Together, cleaning up our American River Parkway, and numerous other volunteer endeavors, SAR members spend hundreds if not thousands of hours annually helping to make Sacramento a better place to live.
We have a SAR Committee that’s been charged with identifying and promoting opportunities for SAR members to get more involved in our community — the Community Relations Committee. The committee is expanding its reach this year and is exploring new ways for our members to make a positive impact in our Sacramento community. This year’s Chair is Chris Little and Vice Chair is Gina LaPlaca. Please be on the lookout for the new and exciting things coming from this group!
